I have played with the Durham Symphony for many years since I returned from England in 1986. I was Principal Cello for some time, then became Principal for 19 years with the Raleigh Symphony. After a few years of playing in both orchestras, I took some time out from Durham, as playing for 2 orchestras became too time-consuming. Later, commuting and gas prices made playing in Raleigh a challenge, so with Durham being closer, I am enjoying being back with my friends in the Durham Symphony. Concert going is an invaluable part of a student's musical education and I encourage all my students to attend at least one classical concert, especially the one with the Young Artist competition winners, and one pops concert during the season. Tickets for student groups of 10 or more are only $8. Invite your friends and make up a group, this is a great opportunity to hear a live orchestra and great music. Don't miss it!
