I have played with the Durham Symphony for many years since I returned from England in 1986. I was Principal Cello for some time, then became Principal for 19 years with the Raleigh Symphony. After a few years of playing in both orchestras, I took some time out from Durham, as playing for 2 orchestras became too time-consuming. Later, commuting and gas prices made playing in Raleigh a challenge, so with Durham being closer, I am enjoying being back with my friends in the Durham Symphony. Concert going is an invaluable part of a student's musical education and I encourage all my students to attend at least one classical concert, especially the one with the Young Artist competition winners, and one pops concert during the season. Tickets for student groups of 10 or more are only $8. Invite your friends and make up a group, this is a great opportunity to hear a live orchestra and great music. Don't miss it!

The symphony has a Rent a Symphony program which I am the coordinator of. Here is some information about it -
The Durham Symphony is pleased to offer the services of our experienced professional musicians for weddings, church services and functions, shows and other events that require good quality performances. Musicians are compensated at the going rate for a particular event and the Symphony will request a tax-deductible donation for booking the services of the musician(s). The amount will vary depending on the number of musicians booked, and will be given at the time of the quote for the musician(s). You can hire one musician as a soloist, small groups (duos, trios, quartets etc.), the chamber orchestra, the full orchestra - whatever your requirements are.
Musician categories - Solo players, Ensembles (Strings, Strings and Flute, Woodwind, Brass) Duo, Trio, Quartet, Quintet, Chamber Orchestra, Full orchestra. Musicians who have applied to be on the roster are in good standing with the orchestra, and have bios and music playlists available if requested.
Our "Brag Book" features musician reviews and thank-you letters.
